What is changing for Attorney's BriefCase users?

Attorney’s BriefCase research content is moving to CEB’s modern legal research platform. This means faster search, better navigation, and a foundation for integration with CEB’s California-focused primary law, secondary sources, and practical guidance content.

Why is Attorney's BriefCase moving to CEB's platform?

CEB acquired Attorney’s BriefCase to preserve and expand its trusted family law expertise, ensuring California practitioners continue to receive authoritative analysis and practice-focused guidance. Moving Attorney’s BriefCase content to CEB’s research platform allows us to combine Attorney’s BriefCase’s deep family law library with CEB’s broader research ecosystem, giving practitioners an integrated, California-specific research experience.

What are the benefits of this move to CEB's platform?

  • Web-based access – No installs, manual updates, or device restrictions. Access from anywhere.

  • Automatic updates - Daily updates mean no need for extra tools or manual checks.

  • Expanded primary law - Addition of full-text case law access for Civil and Criminal Evidence modules for a more efficient workflow.

  • Natural language search - Search full card text, metadata, and citations and remove the need to navigate code-based menus.

  • Modern UI with familiar structure – Topic card structure is preserved but now organized by subject with inline citations to statutes, cases, and rules of court.

  • Access to CEB’s ecosystem – Tap into CEB’s authoritative content including primary law with the option to add secondary sources and practice guides.

  • Integrated TrueCite – Instantly verify case law validity, review citing references, and find stronger precedents.

Do I still have access to the same Attorney's BriefCase research content?

Yes, all Attorney’s BriefCase analytical content is available on CEB’s platform. You will find California Family Law and California Evidence. All historical content has been migrated, and enhancements will continue as part of CEB’s ongoing development. Currently we are linking full text cases to CEB’s California-focused citator for family law and adding full text case support for California Evidence.

Is anything going away?

No content is being removed. Some features from the legacy Attorney’s BriefCase interface may look different, but all analytical content and case commentary remain available. However, the Attorney’s BriefCase app will be discontinued starting February 1, 2026.

What will happen to the old Attorney's Briefcase website?

The legacy Attorney’s Briefcase interface will remain available for a limited transition period. All new updates and content releases will occur only on CEB’s research platform starting February 1, 2026.

Bookmarks and History

Can I bookmark content and save it to folders?

Yes! CEB offers folders and bookmarks to help you organize your research.

How do I bookmark a document?

At the top of any page, click on the gold bookmark icon. Click the gray drop down menu to select an existing folder or create a new one.

Once the folder has been selected, click Add Bookmark.

How do I find and use my existing bookmarks?

Use the same gold bookmark icon at the top of your screen. Navigate between existing folders to find saved content using the drop-down menu on the left.

Can I move or delete a bookmark?

Yes, you can. To move a bookmark, click the small folder icon above the bookmark you’d like to move.

To delete a bookmark, hover over the bookmark you’d like to delete, and click the small red trash icon that appears or click the delete button.

What does the lock symbol mean on Secondary Sources titles?

The lock symbol 🔒 shows out of plan titles included in other libraries. Although you cannot view the full contents of those titles, you can click into the title and browse through the table of contents to see whether upgrading your plan to include that library would be useful.
